Melbourne City Ballet's exciting new ballet "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" will feature at performing arts venues across Victoria and Tasmania. The company's artists will click their heels together and get a little bit wicked as we follow the classic tale of Dorothy Gale who is transported to the magical land of Oz but must find her way home before the Wicked Witch of the West gets hold of her. This production will be a full extravaganza with completely new creations to bring this inspiring work to life.
On Christmas Eve, a little girl named Clara falls asleep after a party at her home and dreams herself, or does she? into a fantastic world where toys become larger than life. Her beloved Nutcracker comes to life and defends her from the Mouse King, then is turned into a Prince after Clara saves his life.

Melbourne City Ballet offers another Shakespearian classic for audiences in 2017, after the huge success of our touring production of Romeo & Juliet in 2016. Melbourne City Ballet will tour for the first time to Osaka Japan to perform a Triple Bill including Artistic Director Michael Pappalardo reimagining of “Carmen”. Featuring two contemporary works and the infamous classical ballet to Bizet’s famous score, audiences will certainly be treated to a special night of entertainment.
”Carmen" tells the story of a city policeman Don Jose whose mother calls him to return home to marry childhood sweetheart Micaela but a chance encounter with the enchanting gypsy girl Carmen, leads them both into a relationship of both passion and destruction.
The contemporary works will feature choreography by Artistic Director Michael Pappalardo and Japan's own Mayu Uesugi, featuring both local artists and the performers of Melbourne City Ballet.
Melbourne City Ballet's annual contemporary showcase returns in 2017 with 'ECHO'. Each year the company engages choreographers who allow company artists to throw off their pointe shoes and dig into their contemporary roots.
Presented by Stonnington City Council, 'ECHO' will showcase works created by Melbourne City Ballet's company artists with a special guest choreographer. Details to be announced shortly.

Don Quixote follows the story of an old man searching for the lady of his desires Dulcinea. In his confusion he mistakes a young spanish girl Kitri as his Dulcinea but Kitri has troubles of her own. Will young Basilio and Kitri be able to escape in order to stay together? Will Don Quixote find Dulcinea, the lady in his dreams?
Artistic Director Michael Pappalardo brings to life the tragic opera favourite, Madame Butterfly, featuring Puccini's signature score. Expect gorgeous costumes, impressive new scenery and stunning hair pieces in this dazzling work.
This ballet follows the story of Butterfly (Cho Cho-San) who marries an American sailor named Pinkerton, and together they have a child. After many years whilst Butterfly has remained loyal, Pinkerton returns to Japan after being away for work with a new American wife who have decided to take away Cho-Cho's child and bring him up in the Americas.
